Alexander Norman holds a BA in Philosophy and Theology and an MSt in Oriental Studies from the University of Oxford.
He is a long-time associate of HH the Dalai Lama, having worked closely with the Tibetan leader on his autobiography, Freedom In Exile (London 1990, Hodder and Stoughton); Ethics For The New Millennium (London 2000, Little Brown) and Beyond Religion: Ethics For a Whole World (Boston 2011, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). In addition, he has served as a speech writer for HH the Dalai Lama and on the Tibetan leader’s Special Review Committee.
He is the author of Holder Of The White Lotus, a history of the Dalai Lama institution. At present, Alexander Norman is working on a biography of HH the Dalai Lama, The Dalai Lama: A Portrait, to be published in 2015.
He is President of the London-based charity, Help Tibet.
Research Professor: Stephen Priest
Stephen Priest is Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy at the University of Oxford. He has been a Visiting Professor in universities in France, Germany, Japan, Macedonia, the Netherlands, and the United States.
Stephen is the author of The British Empiricists (Penguin, Routledge), Theories of the Mind (Penguin, Houghton Mifflin), Merleau-Ponty (Routledge), The Subject in Question (Routledge) and editor of Hegel’s Critique of Kant, (Oxford University Press), Jean-Paul Sartre: Basic Writings (Routledge) and A Dictionary of Philosophy (ed. with Antony Flew) (Macmillan).
His work has been translated into Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Russian and Spanish.

Research Fellow: Ralph Weir
Ralph is a graduate student in Philosophy at the University of Oxford. He holds an MSt in Ancient Philosophy from the University of Oxford, and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Reading.
He has taught Aesthetics, Ancient Philosophy and Ancient Greek language at Blackfriars Hall, University of Oxford, and his interests include humane philosophy, metaphysics and philosophy of mind.
In addition to his work for the Dalai Lama Centre, Ralph is co-organiser of the Humane Philosophy Project, a collaborative philosophy project between the Universities of Oxford and Warsaw.

Thupten Jinpa is a Visiting Research Scholar at the Stanford Institute for Neuro-Innovation and Translational Neurosciences at Stanford University.president and editor-in-chief of the Institute of Tibetan Classics, Cambridge.
He is also a member of the advisory board of the Mind and Life Institute, which is dedicated to fostering creative dialogue between the Buddhist tradition and Western science.
Thupten Jinpa has written many books and articles, his latest being Tibetan Songs of Spiritual Experience (co-edited with Jas Elsner) and Self, Reality and Reason in Tibetan Thought: Tsongkhapa’s Quest for the Middle View.

Lord Montagu is an elected hereditary peer of the House of Lords. He is a cross-bencher with a particular interest in international development and asylum issues.
In addition, Lord Montagu is a former Council member of Anti-Slavery International, a former Board member of Christian Aid and an Advisor to Save the Children Fund and CARE International.
Advisory Board Member: Jesse Norman MP
Jesse Norman is the Conservative MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire. He is the author of Compassionate Conservatism and Compassionate Economics, which was described as “the most intelligent political tract of 2009, and the best analysis of the credit crunch” in the Daily Telegraph.
Jesse is a member of the Treasury Select Committee, the House of Commons Governance Committee and one of the few Conservative MPs who has consistently refused to back the government’s military intervention in Syria.
His work in the community includes the Roundhouse arts centre and urban regeneration project.
Director of Communications: Kerry Smallman
Kerry has lectured in British Civilisation, Communication Studies and English Language at Von Humboldt University (Berlin), Eichstaett University (Bavaria) and The University of Côte d’Opale (Boulogne).
Kerry manages the centre’s web presence and blogs on topical ethical issues. Her work has appeared in national media such as The Voice newspaper and The BBC World Service, as well as local and specialist magazines, such as Future Music, South Edinburgh Echo and Oxfordshire Music Scene.
